thrifting adventures

We love thrift store adventures as much as the next Pinterest addict, & you are invited to explore with us in Fairport, NY.  Saturday morning, total Cash in Hand: $40 ($20 each, as per the ATM’s unspoken code of cash distribution)

9AM – Searching for David in the crowded parking lot at Village Landing in the heart of the Village of Fairport, NY.

9:10 – 1st stop: The Tool Thrift Store. Volunteer run & stocked through donations, check here next time you need a tool or hardware related item.  Proceeds are used to support Senior Options for Independence (SOFI) which provides care management & transportation for elders living independently in the Fairport community.

purchases: 4 small pulleys, 10 mini light bulbs, vintage workshop light, roll of iron-on wood veneer strip. total: $2.70

11755162_900093560052515_8441758482337002390_n9:35 – Red Bird Market.  A local woman-owned grocery store., they stock as many locally made items as possible from pasta to cheese to jam to baking mixes.  They even produce their own peanut butters!  Saturdays often include samples of something tasty.  no purchases today.

10:00 – Next up: Craft Bits and Pieces.  Another volunteer run supporter of SOFI, they carry any & all types of art & craft supply.  This is where we try to pick up as many of our crafting needs as we can.  You will see why…

purchases: 10 new (or almost) craft paints, 10 skeins embroidery floss, 5 small stamps, 5 glass rods of unknown origins, large Gothic arch stencil, rigid piece of leather, block of polymer clay softener, 3 flat pieces of wood with scalloped edges, 2 small wood treasure boxes, 4 pieces of wood under 6 inches.  total: $11.32

10:37: We take our treasures to the cars and decide on our next direction.  We hit a few more stores in the plaza including Skip’s Meat Market.  Here we discovered Chicken Sausage for way less than at Wegmans.  No purchases here today but there will certainly be in the future.

IMG_4663-111:00: Newly Renovated Library.  This was obviously not a shopping stop but rather a curiosity stop.  Our library was recently reopened after renovations.  Amazing transformation!  There is a virtual tour on the website.  As we sat in the teen section on neon green chairs we took the opportunity to capture us.  We also hit their used book store upstairs.

purchase: Shadow on the Crown by Patricia Bracewelltotal: $2.16. I’ll let you know how it is.

11:17: The Fairport Pharmacy.  This is also a gift shop featuring work by local artists.  This stop was to gather intelligence about other local artists & how the Pharmacy runs their gift shop.  Maybe our items will be on the shelves there soon.

11:32: Panera Bread for a business meeting about our morning.  Actually, we both needed coffee and scones 🙂

purchase: 2 medium coffees, 2 scones (one orange and one mixed berry, both delicious).  total: $6.47

total spent: $22.65

total if we had shopped big box stores: over $85!
